BERKELEY FORESTS manages multiple forest research stations within California.  This position will be stationed out of Blodgett Research Forest in Georgetown, CA with trips of varying lengths to other properties. Berkeley Forests facilitates and conducts forestry-related research in areas of forest ecology, fire ecology, ecosystem processes, silviculture, and forest management on forest properties. This position will provide broad support for achieving the mission of facilitating research, demonstration, and education through maintenance of facilities and infrastructure as well as operation of heavy equipment in support of research and forest management. QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED:

Facilities maintenance experience including electrical, plumbing, and carpentry (rough and finish).

Experience operating heavy motorized equipment including loader/backhoe and excavator.

Knowledge of safe working methods and procedures.

Experience operating power tools.

Class A license or ability to obtain within 2 years.

PREFERRED:

Vehicle and heavy equipment maintenance experience.

Experience with forestry operations such as mastication and site preparation.

 

DUTIES

Maintains, repairs, and modifies research field station structures including cabins, workshops, meeting building, and storage sheds.

Rough and finish carpentry, drywall, plumbing, electrical, roofing, windows, doors, decks, paint, stains, concrete, block.

Maintains, repairs, and modifies research field station roads and paths; shaping and grading, snow removal, culvert installation and repair, cattle guards, gates, French drains, retaining walls, sediment ponds.

Maintains, repairs, and modifies research field station infrastructure; water systems, pumps, storage tanks, hydrants, propane supply lines, electrical distribution lines, fences.

Conducts forest cultural operations; site preparation, mastication, other heavy equipment use.

Operates, maintains, and performs minor repairs of heavy motor vehicles including water tender, backhoe, dump truck and excavator.

Operates, maintains, and performs minor repairs of Berkeley Forests equipment including vehicles, chainsaws, pruners, brush-cutters, pesticide mixer, and welder.

Performs forest research measurements and other duties as assigned.

Maintains operational records of equipment and personnel time, services used, etc.

 

SALARY AND BENEFITS

This position is a non-exempt, bi-weekly paid position. Hourly pay for this role is commensurate with experience within the range of $23.05 - $31.01, Steps 1.0 - 16.0.
